Sega Master System Controlled by an Arduino Empty
PostSubject: Sega Master System Controlled by an Arduino   Sega Master System Controlled by an Arduino EmptyWed Sep 11, 2013 6:28 pm

I guess a controller 'mod' is the best way to describe it but in reality it is more of a controller replacement!

So I hooked up my Arduino to my Sega Master System by desoldering the wiring from an old Sega controller and connecting it to the output pins of the Arduino instead. A little bit of programming magic and we have a system capable of playing Alex the Kidd all by itself!

Check it out:

and I've got a blog entry you can hunt down about it as well.

Anyone any thoughts?

I love it. Reminds me of a nes someone built that runs tas recordings on the real hardware.

Lol. Awesome. Does it just run a pre-programmed loop sequence of some sort then?

Ah cool I was thinking it could be used for something like that but it would take quite a bit of work on the software side of things.

Exactly that, just a series of commands along the lines of:

Code:
pressButton(left, 500)
pressButton(right, 1000)
pressButton(button1, 50)
Simple stuff but pretty boring to fill in.

If you can hook something up to intercept controller button input so it can record the button presses and save them in your format that would save a lot of time. Then again having something that can play tas recordings would be even cooler.

Yeah that's how I was thinking it could be done as there are already schematics out there of how to hook up the system to work with either the Arduino or the controller. It's pretty cool, you can hook it up so that the Arduino effectively does macros,so you push a button and it makes Ryu do 3 fireballs in a row that sorta thing. Was thinking of hooking it up so I could finally do Dalsim's teleport move that I've never managed to pull off!
