PostSubject: The Crystal Clear Audio Mod Thread   Thu Apr 18, 2013 10:40 pm

What is the crystal clear audio mod?: It's a rebuilt audio circuit for certain pcb revisions of the sega genesis that make it sound better than any other model ever made

Why does the cyrstal clear audio mod only work with certain pcb revisions?:
It has to do with the sound chips used, only certain pcb revisions came with a superior sound chip which at the source outputs audio that's higher quality than any other genesis soundchip.

Who made this amazing mod circuit?: Tiido priimagi (I hope I spelled this correctly) from Estonia.

Is this mod circuit tweakable to get the bass / treble levels sounding just how I like them?: Absolutely.

Which genesis revisions will this mod work in?: The model 1 va7 (my personal favourite). The model 2 va0, va1, and va1.8 revision pcbs. This mod won't work in any other pcb revision as all other pcbs came with inferior sound chips which output lower quality fm audio right at the source.

Can I buy just the pre-assembled circuit and install it myself?: Yes you can.

Does this audio circuit work with the 32x and / or sega cd?: Yes it does, it mixes in the audio from the 32x and sega cd perfectly.

Can I hire a professional to buy and install this circuit for me?: Yes you can hire me. If you mail me your system I can buy and install this circuit for 120$ parts and labour. This price includes what it costs me to buy the ccam circuit. I've successfully hand build a ccam circuit, installed the circuit into both the model 1 and the model 2 genesis, and fixed a few mistakes with internet installation guides. I can tweak the bass / treble levels and show you direct audio recordings from your system before mailing it to you so you know it's tweaked to your liking. I can install either a headphone jack or rca jacks for the sound output. Or you can hire someone else who claims he / she knows what they're doing.

Where can I buy the pre-assembled audio circuit?: Here: http://www.retrotimegames.com/ccam.html
I've personally bought one of these from this seller and the transaction went smoothly.

Here's what the pre-assembled pcb looks like:

Here's the schematic of the circuit:

Here's the layout of the pcb where I clearly marked how to adjust the bass / treble levels of the circuit. Adjusting these capacitors adjusts how much of the treble gets filtered out.

For the sake of preservation here's the installation guides. Both of these guides should be correct.

Model 2 genesis va0, va1, or va 1.8:

Model 1 genesis va7:

I went back to my ccam today and finished it up. I removed the audio amplifier that didnt work with the ccam, and i removed the low pass filters and replaced them with .1uf caps and a stereo potentiometer.

It sounds great and can be considered done. My Genesis sounds awesome.
