Batman: Return of the Joker is one of he best NES games ever released and actually looks like a 16-bit game. Batman: Return of the Joker on both the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo is terrible and actually looks worse than the original NES version. I mean, a lot worse, despite having more colors.
Strider for the Genesis / Megadrive is actually a bit better than the original CPS1 arcade game in my opinion. The only CPS translation I could honestly say that about. Although the color pallet is a less and there are less frames of animation, all of the sprites have been redrawn on the Genesis and Strider's sprite, in particular, looks better than the original arcade sprite. The original arcade sprite has sort of cartoon proportions, while the Megadrive sprite is drawn more realistically. How the Sega managed to duplicate a CPS1 game so faithfully in so little space took some pretty amazing programming.
In every other instance the original CPS1 game is always far better than anything on the consoles (excluding the SharpX68000, FM-Towns, etc.).
