Finally got around to uploading a video of all the moves and physics that I can remember changing around....there's a lot of stuff that's been changed from the original champion edition rom. It plays nothing like any other version of the game released, it feels more like the first marvel vs capcom.

This project started out just from me being curious about what exactly makes the old street fighter 2 arcade hacks "tick". The more I learned about the programming the more I learned how to hack the code myself. In a short period of time I went from knowing nothing about how the programming works to creating two heavily hacked versions of street fighter 2 champion edition. There are no hacking tools for the arcade version of street fighter 2 and certainly no documentation on how to hack the roms of the game. I "reverse engineered" the original taiwanese romhacks from the early 90s by comparing them to the original champion edition rom dumps. Comparing the roms allowed me to figure out what hex values change physics, music, and I even learned how to replace normal function calls with a fireball shooting out. The only thing I used "tools" to help me change was the pallette data. I did both of these hacks using nothing but a hex editor and a lot of patience, I took notes of all my work and the notes are included in the rom zip file. A lot of the special hacked data such as being able to do moves in the air, changing characters mid-round and shooting more than one fireball at a time was simply copied and pasted over from the taiwan hack roms.
The "punishment edition" hack is meant to be silly and not serious at all. Punishment edition is meant to make the game as silly as possible without making it 100% impossible to play. I could have made punishment edition even worse, I found a way to make characters shoot endless fireballs when the game is still announcing the round and this would kill the opponent before the round would even begin. So for anyone who thinks punishment edition is terrible just remember it could have been even worse.
With the "sheng long" hack I was trying to make the game more like the later capcom fighting games that were obviously inspired by the original taiwan hacks. These taiwanese hacks really changed the fighting game world forever and made it what it is today. I customized the game physics, made all new custom pallettes, and re-tooled the super moves so they felt like no character was too overpowered. Beating up the computer opponent in this hack is fairly easy because the AI isn't programmed to really make use of the programming changes that I made. But still the game is nothing but fun to play and now there's no character that feels boring or too weak.
The best way to define these two hacks is to call them "a hack of a hack". They play like much more balanced versions of the classic hacks with a lot of new stuff changed around and added.

To get it running in an emulator download winkawaks. Copy this file into the roms / cps1 folder. Run winkawaks and the game will be "champion edition world 920313"

sheng long:

Just copy the zip of the hack into the roms folder and rename it sf2ce.zip. Then run mame and play "champion edition world 920513" and you're good to go.

Hi friend, thanks a lot for your reply Unfortunately the roms needed are not present in the two zip posted. :( We need: s92_22sle.7f [size: 524288] [CRC32: 0ef635ec] [SHA1: 2b027c25f1b7c955ce456f3b3c5661ae4514b9ef] s92e_23sle.8f [size: 524288] [CRC32: 5edced8e] [SHA1: 94271be52a6f03546acc90a9a192fbfecc911a4a
Thanks again

I downloaded ash build 0.146 it works fine. You just have to tell it to list "all games" then tell it to run sf2ce.zip "champion edition world 920513"

I think the Ash build 0.146 needs s92_22sle.7f and s92e_23sle.8f Revision 3 roms

Welcome. Your next build of what?
If it's some version of mame that will be great I'm tired of trying to explain to people how to get it running.

Oh you must be that ash build person. Okay we need to make some sort of standard to include my rom you should have contacted me first. Here I've re-uploaded the romsets with their own individual zip names so it's easier to include.
I downloaded your ash build and it says "Dragon Sheng Long", uhh, might want to change "Dragon" into "Drakon"
Also you can add punishment edition if you want. "Drakon Punishment Edition" will be fine.

No worries it's a common mistake. I'm surprised version 3 even made it in there I outdated that version in record time it wasn't available for download for very long.

Punishment edition is NOT a serious hack and I made it just to show how silly the game could become (actually I found a way to hack the game so you could kill your opponent before the round even started but that wasn't very fun).
No I can't add more custom stuff to the game and I'm surprised I even managed to pull off this many changes.
Downloads for my rom hacks in their current versions:
These roms should be included in the mame ash build either currently or very soon.
http://ashura.altervista.org/
To get these roms to work in winkawaks or a cps1 emulator that doesn't currently have them in the list. Download the rom, rename the file "sf2ce.zip". Copy the file into the cps1 roms folder. Run winkawaks or whatever emulator. Select from the games list "street fighter 2 champion edition 920313" and play. Some emulators may not work but I know these will run fine in winkawaks. If your emulator doesn't have "champion edition 920313" listed just try running whichever version of champion edition is listed as "sf2ce.zip".
Ok, I´m glad about the hint for my build and sure those will be add of course
Cheers.
