For the original or snes (I cnt remember) there was a Lorna game... Like a spelling game and if you spell it right the clothes come off. Also on the ps2 there was the guys only game. It was trivia.

Splatterhouse for arcade.
decapitation, impaling, some nasty looking bosses, incredible atmosphere, soundtrack, sound effects and much more. Very brutal and oh so fun, a favorite of mine for sure.
Haha I remember Chiller, a nasty game indeed.

Wait...splatterhouse was banned? That game's not really that gross. Chiller makes splatterhouse look like pee-wee's playhouse.

Yes, "pee-wee's playhouse" was banned in most arcades.

Yet somehow mortal kombat wasn't banned.

Hmmm yes, that is quite peculiar... I speculate that it had something to do with time of release perhaps? Mortal Kombat was released in 1992 while Splatterhouse was released in 1988.

Okay so somehow between 1988 and 1992 censors decided they no longer cared? And then by 1994 suddenly the "Entertainment Software Rating Board" was formed. The sad thing about mortal wombat...
...is that for some silly reason it was the only gory video game that wasn't banned on anything. Maybe this is because it was a better quality gory game?

No I don't believe it was because it was a "better quality gory game", that's equivalent to stating that if Chiller were great then it wouldn't have been banned. I believe the reason was due to the violence not always being directly apparent. For example, if you play through the game on single player I seem to recall the A.I. rarely ever used fatalities and I doubt small kids would work out the combinations for said fatalities if they played against another player.

Wolfenstein 3D was banned in Germany as I recall, due to references to killing Nazis and also Hitler in the game. They were a bit sensitive 20 years ago!

well perhaps not most civilians after they figured out what was REALLY going on.
but before they figured out about all the murdering and stuff then im pretty sure they were like "holy crap! this game has the right idea!"

It was more that the Germans were not keen on violent games about their past I guess. I think they also banned Doom too as "too violent".

Another game that is quite well known for being banned was Manhunt. It was banned over here because of it's violence. Also in more recent times the latest rendition of mortal kombat was banned over here too, that really blows my mind though because they let games such as gears of war through which also has blowing up of limbs etc etc.

Is it me or are video games including more insane amounts of gore, violence and sex for some sort of publicity stunt? I mean a good game's a good game but there's some video games that seem to be put out there just for the closet torture porn people. I think glenn guessed it right with the original 2d mortal kombats being overlooked just because the fatalities all required big button combinations to get to.

They do seem to be featuring more of those elements at higher intensity for sure, I agree it must be for publicity or something. It's almost as if companies are doing more of it to outdo other games which attempt to like it's some sort of competition.

Yes, not banning as such but games like Mortal Combat, and others had to have green blood rather than red! lol

Hahaha yes I remember some games using green blood rather than red! I know house of the dead 2 had the option of green blood but I can't remember if they operated it with green blood in the arcades. But either way they still tried to block that game from kids via it's curtains around the cabinet .

It's the same reason why "female products" are advertised using blue liquid not red.. somehow it's acceptable! A bit like green blood in games rather than red!

I've seen countless games with non red blood. Apparently all neo geo mvs carts contain the changes between all different regions of the mvs. AES might be the same. When you play the cart with an american bios sometimes stuff is more censored than the japanese mvs. All contained in the same cartridge just depends what region your bios chip is.

Thats because most of the enemies are not human. Its a part of the game, so I wouldnt count any RE game on the list of banned games...

The things you kill in splatterhouse aren't human either but that one got banned. Maybe if resident evil had red blood it would have been banned?
